Dundee Together, Celebrating Diversity, 2015
Saturday 22nd August 2015
11am – 4pm
City Square, Dundee

Dear friends,

‘Dundee Together, Celebrating Diversity 2015’ is an event planned for Saturday August 22nd.  It will take place in Dundee City Square between 11am and 4pm.
The event is being organised by the local community for the local community and will be a cultural celebration, a chance for us all to come together and celebrate our wonderfully diverse city and all its occupants.
The event will include community and campaign stalls, arts and crafts, children’s activities, a Love Music Hate Racism stage with live music and dance from local artists and performers and much more.
There will also be a parade, up Reform Street to lay a wreath at the International Brigade Memorial in Albert Square then back down to the square. We hope this parade will be colourful, bright and loud.
The atmosphere will be one of inclusion and we hope involve people of all ages and backgrounds.
The date has been chosen as it marks 4 years since a similar event was held to oppose the racists Scottish Defence League who attempted to demonstrate in our city, since then Dundee Together has held an event annually and has grown into a truly cultural celebration.
To make the event successful we need you to participate in making it great, we would like to invite you to become involved, in whatever way you think is most suitable to your group/organisation.
There are many ways in which you and your organisation can become involved and we will do all we can to help facilitate your plans, here are a few suggestions of ways in which you can participate:

  • Join the parade
  • Hold a stall or activity
  • Hold a workshop
  • Organise a children’s activity
  • Organise a children’s art activity
  • Hold a dance/music/juggling, etc demonstration/workshop
  • Organise some street theatre
  • Donating towards the costs of the day (cheques payable to “Dundee Trades Council”)
  •  Assisting with publicity and attendance
  • Volunteer to help out during the event
  • Signing up as a supporter of the event
We would like the day to be interactive and fun, if you, your group or your organisation would like to be involved please get in touch.
At present the organising group is currently supported by Dundee Trades Council, Dundee City UNISON, PCS and UNITE trade unions, Dundee International Women’s Centre, Amina Muslim Womens Resource Centre, Dundee Community Centre and individuals from our local community, if you would like to become involved in the organising group or if you need any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch.

UNISON Members Friends and Family Fun Day
at New Lanark
Sunday 30 August from 11am to 5pm

All UNISON members are invited to our New Lanark members, friends and family Fun Day.

This year we have all the usual activities to ensure a good day out for everyone.
The historic New Lanark with its top-rated Visitor Centre (25% off for UNISON members on the day), fantastic scenery and walks, excellent Mill Pantry café (UNISON members can get money off vouchers) and 5 star hotel, restaurant and bar, is the venue for our event.
In addition we will have lots of things to keep the kids happy. Face painting, balloon sculpture, bouncy castle, birds of prey, smoothie-bike and treasure hunt.
We have live music to keep everyone entertained whilst they browse round the various stalls in the courtyard.
In the Visitor Centre’s River Room we have, for UNISON members, the UNIZONE Drop –In where there are lots of goodies for kids and adults alike and the chance to meet up with UNISON colleagues from around the country.
Finally the UNISON There For You raffle, with prizes of an overnight stay at the New Lanark Hotel and a family ticket for the Visitor Centre plus other prizes, will be drawn.
We even have plans to cope with the possibility of poor weather so a little bit of Scottish weather won’t spoil the day. Although good weather is almost certainly guaranteed with so many righteous people present!
There is a free bus running from East Kilbride and Hamilton. To book places contact the Branch office on 01698 454690.
Looking forward to seeing you (and your friends and family).
